Experience military life during the Cold War as seen through the eyes of a strong-willed, resourceful fighter pilot in Ron Standerfer's book, "The Eagle's Last Flight: A Fighter Pilot's Story" (published by iUniverse).

Taking inspiration from his own life, Standerfer tells the story of Skip O'Neill, an Air Force fighter pilot who, though he appeared to be an ordinary young man, was destined to live an extraordinary life.

Skip was just 22 when he volunteered to participate in an atomic test. He was certain the government would not put him in harm's way, but he was wrong. After serving his country with courage and honor for 27 years (1954 - 1981), Skip learned that he was dying of leukemia.

True-to-life and filled with realistic dialogue and relatable characters, "The Eagle's Last Flight" will appeal to a broad audience as it pays homage to the brave men and women of the Air Force.

Ron Standerfer's 27-year Air Force career spanned from 1954 - 1981. During that time, he flew a variety of high performance fighters and was awarded two Silver Stars, thirteen Air Medals and the Purple Heart. After retiring as a full colonel, Standerfer went on to work as the marketing director for Falcon Jet Corporation and was the owner of an aircraft charter and marketing company. He is also a prolific writer and journalist; his book reviews and syndicated news articles are regularly published online and in print. This is Standerfer's first full-length book.
