Author Ellyssa Muniz' new book follows a group of children possessing special jewels that grant them super powers, leading to the formation of a group of do-gooders known as the "Hope Striders" (published by Xlibris). As they attune themselves to their incredible abilities while experiencing the more down-to-earth growing pains of youth, they discover that they are not alone, for with their great powers come great challenges that they need to overcome.

The "Hope Striders" are led by Kay, who struggles to find herself while taking a crash course in leadership. She and her compatriots learn of another group of super-powered youths with less than noble intentions and must contend with their newfound rivals even as they deal with the hurdles of growing up and the responsibilities that come with their special talents. A romantic relationship slowly develops between Kay and her fellow Hope Strider, Noah, as their group skirmishes with the Dividers. Later, they encounter an even greater threat and both factions must put their differences aside in order to face the oncoming storm. When this happens, Kay's leadership and her relationship with Noah will face the ultimate test.

Muniz infuses her novel with pleasantly quirky and flawed characters who the readers can relate to; creating a humorous and engaging narrative wherein the protagonists struggle to do better not only for themselves, but for those they care about. Beneath the super-powered adventures, the "Hope Striders" is a story about how young people fail and makes mistakes while learning from them, picking themselves up and bettering themselves as they continue their coming-of-age adventure.
