A romantic relationship slowly develops between Kay and her fellow Hope Strider, Noah, as their group skirmishes with the Dividers. Later, they encounter an even greater threat and both factions must put their differences aside in order to face the oncoming storm. When this happens, Kay's leadership and her relationship with Noah will face the ultimate test.

Muniz infuses her novel with pleasantly quirky and flawed characters who the readers can relate to; creating a humorous and engaging narrative wherein the protagonists struggle to do better not only for themselves, but for those they care about.
