Author Bill Hoatson has a vast experience as a teacher, having been one since 1975. He came to the realization that children from disadvantaged backgrounds also deserve a good shot at a successful life. His publication, "Lessons Learned the Hard Way: 16 Things Every Teacher Should Know" (published by Xlibris), teaches how to create successful children through education, regardless what their life experience or abilities may be.

Based on 35 years of experience teaching children in economically depressed areas, Hoatson highlights the plight of children who struggle academically through no fault of their own. There are many factors that may affect a child in reaching their full potential, such as forces of poverty, violence, crime and negativity. They create a totally different child than those who come from a background of wealth, stable family unit, and a stimulating and secure environment. Children should not deal with more stress, thus he proposes that schools need to be a joyful place, set up specifically so that they experience a constant stream of success academically and emotionally.

This book is an entertaining and informative textbook on the philosophy and methodology of teaching children from stressed backgrounds. It is a roadmap for teachers who otherwise often burn out dealing with so many difficult issues and demands. "The children need experienced teachers to last and be there when they need them," says Hoatson.

Illuminating and enlightening, "Lessons Learned the Hard Way: 16 Things Every Teacher Should Know" grapples with schools and children's most important problems as told through hundreds of the author's experiences.
