CORNWALL, Ontario

When the citizens of an enchanted immortal island begin dropping dead and staying dead, four islanders must seek out the goddess who first enchanted the island and discover how they can restore the balance in Angie Dilaj's striking new novel, "Apple Cores" (published by Xlibris).

Set in the 18th century, "Apple Cores" centers on a beautiful lonely island, located off the coast of Louisiana, with an intriguing secret. A spirit called Lorelei gave the island the gift of resurrection. None of the islanders will remain dead so long as they stay on the island's shores, but eternal life is beginning to lose its zest with several citizens.

Doctor and undertaker Jackson Grimm is in love with Lorelei, whom he met at the crossroads of death. Meanwhile, the island's militia's leader, William Moreau, is beginning to feel restless while his wife, Edith tries desperately to rekindle their romance. Finally, Cosette Giroux, the island drunk, prostitute and ancestor of Lorelei, struggles to maintain her self-respect.

When the islanders suddenly start dying and staying dead, these four characters must uncover Lorelei's secrets if they want to save their island. Laced with romance and mystery, "Apple Cores" infuses Dilaj's poetic writing with a strong narrative that expounds upon themes of beauty and death.
