Growing up is tough enough. Imagine doing it with an elven soul inside you.

In author Candace Beck Moesta's new novel, Soul Shift, a young girl named Claire finds herself hunted by an infamous half-elf for the soul within her. It is this soul that allows her to witness a magical hidden realm. With the protection of a Pan named Agreus, she grows into a young woman and faces the consequences of maintaining balance through the elven world.

"Though many of the characters are not human, they often face the same problems we do," said Moesta. "I tried to write not only a new twist on fantasy fiction, but a story anyone can relate to."

Moesta has always considered herself a bit different from her peers: she is, in her own words, a "complete nerd". She played Dungeons & Dragons while growing up and adores sci-fi, which led to her decision to give the fantasy genre something fresh and different.

With an array of mythical creatures and magic to spare, Soul Shift offers themes of grey morality and fantasy appeal in a modern world.
