The new Broadway revival of Monty Python’s Spamalot will end its run at the St. James Theatre on April 7. A national tour is expected to launch in the fall of 2025.

There was no reason for this to return to Broadway. Surprised but then I thought they'd stick around through the Tonys. Does this still plan to tour come the Fall?
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I know their original “extension” through July 28th was lofty but I’m surprised they didn’t even make it to their original closing date of April 28th.
Considering how one of the producers I knew on it was gung-ho on running this as long as they could, things must’ve been really dire.
Maybe they didn’t have enough Jews?

Wasn't interested in this. That said, I'm sad to see these talented actors be out of a job. Hope the tour does better.

Genuinely heartbroken that I won't be able to do the most confusing two show day with this and Cabaret.
I hope this tours someday, I would absolutely love to see this.

This show was always meant to be a placeholder so the Jujamcyn flagship house wouldn't sit empty. This must mean that they found something else to come in and replace it in the summer/autumn.

Before casting was announced I was so excited that they must have 3 legendary actors planned to star like the original. The audacity to do this without even 1 star.. and that's not a jab I like everyone in it.

It made only $589,970 last week, according to Playbill. I’m sure that is below its nut, and future sales must not have been looking good with all of the new shows opening before the Tony deadline. I agree that this should not have transferred without any major stars attached. It has been done regionally a lot since its premiere, and there was no real incentive for audiences to see this production.

I absolutely loved this and hope to get one more performance in before closing. It brought back so many great memories I had for the original production and also gave a unique and wonderful experience. I encourage those who haven’t seen it to give it a chance. I can’t imagine we’ll see it again for at least another decade or two.
This will kill on tour, I have no doubt.

Surprised theyre not hanging on through summer, but i bet Kritzer is nominated anyway. I wonder if the show will be alongside Merrily and Cabaret? It was a fun night.

And I'm still a little unhappy about that. I bought a Kennedy Center subscription based on seeing Sunset Boulevard and Kiss of the Spider Woman, to which I added The Play That Goes Wrong to fill it out. In the end I only saw one show that I really wanted to see. I'm mostly unhappy with myself for not taking the opportunity to get out of the subscription when the KC gave me the chance to do that.
Kiss of the Spider Woman is about a thousand times better a musical than the very feeble Spamalot. I really hope it gets a really good production soon.

Same! I mean, I don't have a subscription or anything, but was absolutely planning to come down to see Spider Woman. Hopefully we get another good production of it soon.

I’m not surprised by this. There was a rumor floating around Reddit that the principals were asked to take a pay cut to keep the show going.
The show really could have been great had some effort been put into updating the show with modern references, instead of the same ones from 20 years ago. Not to mention the recycled costumes (I know a few of Leslie’s were new) and staging.

Saw it last Saturday. I liked it, not as much as the original, but I thought it was still good and not really shocked since the grosses haven't exactly been great.
The thing that I find weird and correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember reading the speculation about it being a limited engagement and any time I went to their website, I don't recall them ever having that information on there, until the announced they are closing. The site now has "limited engagement" on it to which if it was going to be that, shouldn't that have been on the site from day 1? Shark is Broken, Mind Mangler and Peter Pan Goes Wrong all had that on their sites, so don't really get why they decided not to have that for Spamalot if they were indeed making it a limited engagement

Not sure why they didn’t explicitly list as limited run on the website, but the original announcement of the transfer said this across multiple outlets.
I am big. It’s the REVIVALS that got small.

Spamalot has once again joined the cart of Broadway's deceased this afternoon, but this production is not dead yet: Eric Idle appeared on stage following today's final performance and reiterated that a national tour is in the works.

not until 2025-2026 the season though.
