It's now beyond dispute that Trump is leading us on a dangerous road to fascism.  We desperately need the people who were conned into voting for him to wake up, immediately.  If his minions swallow this line, we maybe beyond hope.

There is no comparison between the state of the country now compared to January of 2009.  Anyone who disputes that is either completely detached from reality, or a troll trying to distract from the complete disarray within this administration.

That press conference was insane, how can anybody defend this troglodyte in a bad suit?

 

He'd barely had time to take a breath after attacking the media for not telling the truth, before he told his first blatant lie.

He said his 306 electoral vote victory was “I guess the biggest electoral win since Ronald Reagan.”

This is untrue

• Every president since Ronald Reagan, with the exception of George W Bush, won their elections by a greater margin than Donald Trump.

Confronted with this falsehood, Trump at first said he had been talking about Republicans. But when he was told of George HW Bush’s 426 vote win, he said: “I was just given that information, I was just - given it, we had a very big margin.”

 

The reporter asked: “I guess the question is, why should Americans trust you when you accuse the information they receive as being fake when you’re providing information that is not accurate?”

Trump said: “Well, I was given that information. I was, actually I’ve seen that information around. But it was a very substantial victory, do you agree with that?”

The exasperated reporter simply replied: “You’re the President.”

I wouldn't ever want to work for someone who's that quick to throw their staff under the bus. 

(For the record, I don't believe his staff told him this. He invented this alternative fact in his head, thinking he'd never get called out on it. When he did, his first instinct was to pass the blame. Scary stuff.)

With the US and UK (following Brexit vote) already on the road to fascism. With the elections across many European countries, the year end could see fascism taking over western Europe also. A real slap in the face for our parents & grandparents, who died in their millions across the world to defeat fascism in the second world war. It really is time to be scared.

Perhaps it's time for the APA to repeal the Goldwater Rule.  I actually felt sorry for Trump after yesterday's presser.  I really hope his immediate family and personal physician are not in denial.  Someone has to stage an intervention for the sake of the Republic.

Section 4 of the 25th Amendment has never been invoked:

"Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office."

Well I hate to point it out but in the case of the UK it was overwhelmingly the parents and grandparents generation that voted for Brexit. 75% of voters under the age of 24 chose to remain in the EU. So basically we're waiting for the right wingers and the jingoists to die off... Unfortunately we'll be (even more of) a tiny insignificant island again by then with a weak currency and a limited world view.

I am appalled at how easily, rump's minions and staff and the media have accepted to now live in a world where "alternative facts" are stated as truth, repeated and replayed, printed and amazingly pandered to supporters at rallies after one month in office. I knew things were going to be bad but this daily soap opera circus is even beyond my realm of reality. Rump has a 6 hour work day and then he checks the ratings. It's bad enough these dictatorial series of edicts and commands are now costing billions of dollars along with three residences, security, etc., budgets be damned. Most of the world continues to watch silently in fear. GB Parliament just said no go to rump.     

I hate to say it but something really really bad is going to have to happen to get the people of the country, along with the spineless House and Senate, to wake up.

While this is probably an accurate reflection it is equally probable that they were sold false promises by opportunist career politicans and will be the ones hardest hit when EU subsidies to economically deprived areas (Wales, Cornwall..) disappear and promised "benefits" don't materialise. The parallels to Trump supporters continue...

Time will tell but hopefully the populist movement  here and thruout Europe and that includes Bernie Supporters, have "woke" the Political Elites to remember these people whohave been forgotten.
