The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director) and 1113 Productions (Steven Ullman, Executive Producer) announced today that they will co-produce the World Premiere of Falling for Eve, a new musical with book by two-time Tony Award-nominee Joe DiPietro (Memphis), music by Bret Simmons ("The Megan Mullally Show") and lyrics by David Howard (Galaxy Quest). The show is based on Howard's play, Adam Alone. Performances begin July 6th, 2010 at The York Theatre at Saint Peter's (Enter on 54th Street, just East of Lexington). Opening Night is set for July 15th.

Falling for Eve offers an enchanting second look at the world's first love story. Creation is going perfectly. Eve, curious about what lies beyond the Garden of Eden, and obsessed with the notion that something is forbidden, bites the infamous apple. Then Adam doesn't. How exactly they'll get together to create the human race is anybody's guess. Falling for Eve is a fresh and unconventional retelling of the most famous romance of all time, filled with unexpected twists and turns as Eve and Adam realize that "paradise" may not be a place after all.

The production will be directed by Larry Raben, with music direction by Kim Steiner. Additional participants, including cast and further creative team, are to be announced.

The York Theatre Company is the only theater in New York City - and one of very few in the world - dedicated to developing and fully producing new musicals and preserving neglected, notable shows from the past. This season, York was nominated for seven Drama Desk, two Lucille Lortel, two Outer Critics Circle and one Drama League Award for its production of Yank! A WWII Love Story (which has been announced for a Broadway transfer, along with last season's Enter Laughing, The Musical). For almost four decades, York's intimate, imaginative style of producing both original and neglected classic musicals has resulted in critical acclaim and recognition from artists and audiences alike. Under the guidance of Artistic Director James Morgan since 1997, the York has focused exclusively on new musicals in its Mainstage Series-most of them world, American, or New York premieres-by some of the field's most esteemed creators, and has also helped launch the careers of many talented new writers. Over 30 cast recordings from York Theatre Company productions are now available on CD, and commercial transfers of such York productions as The Musical of Musicals - The Musical!, Souvenir, Jolson & Company, and acclaimed revivals of Sweeney Todd and Pacific Overtures have all showcased the importance of the York and its programs.

Please visit www.yorktheatre.org for complete performance schedule. Tickets are $67.50 and are available online at www.yorktheatre.org, by calling (212) 935-5820, or in person at the York's box office (Enter on 54th Street, just East of Lexington). Tickets are currently on sale through August 8th, 2010.
