To celebrate the 50th anniversary of THE SOUND OF MUSIC the von Trapp Family returned to one of the birthplaces of the beloved movie: the immortal songs and melodies brought the breathtaking scenery of the "Felsenreitschule" alive with the Sound of Music. For one evening Salzburg Tourism in cooperation with the Salzburg State Theatre celebrated the global phenomena that is THE SOUND OF MUSIC with a grand gala in Salzburg, Austria.

Among the highlights of the evening was the appearance by 4 of the movies "original children" (Friedrich: Nicholas Hammond / Louisa: Heather Menzies/ Kurt: Duane Chase/ Marta: Debbie Turner) as well as the unveiling of Madame Tussauds' Wax figure of Julie Andrews in the THE SOUND OF MUSIC costume. The wax figure will be on display the Madame Tussauds in Vienna, Austria.

The host of the evening and one of the star performers was Uwe Kröger. The whole ensemble of the State Theatre's stage production together with the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg and surprise guests turned this evening into an unforgettable musical event that captured the magic of "The Sound of Music". There were up to 50 nuns, 150 children and the biggest Orchestra that ever played in a "Sound of Music" performance.

A very prominent part of the gala was the appearance of the von Trapp family: During their escape, Maria von Trapp was pregnant with her son Johannes von Trapp, who, together with his wife Lynne, was on stage of the "Felsenreitschule".
