Today, SEA LIFETM Carlsbad Aquarium at the LEGOLAND® California Resort celebrated World Oceans Day with a Dr. Seuss themed party from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. The goal of the World Oceans Day party at SEA LIFE was to raise awareness for conserving and protecting our oceans in a fun and playful way.

"World Oceans Day was created to raise awareness for conserving and protecting our seas" said Megan Malaska, Education Specialist of SEA LIFE Carlsbad Aquarium. "SEA LIFE Carlsbad Aquarium participated in this international celebration with fun, kid-friendly activities to remind guests about the importance of our oceans."

Young guests visiting SEA LIFE during the Dr. Seuss themed World Oceans Day celebration took part in fun, educational, hands-on activities while interacting with SEA LIFE educators and learning more about our oceans and the creatures that live in them. The highlight of the day's activities was two special Daily Dive shows featuring an underwater reading of the Dr. Seuss classics One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish and Wish for a Fish. Sporting 'Seussian attire', an exploration diver used an underwater communications system which allowed guests to speak to the diver through the viewing window while the diver read aloud to them from inside the Aquarium.

Aquarium visitors also decorated a Seussian style name tag; designed an origami fortune teller game with conservation tips and an ocean fortune; made a unique dimensional fish ornament; and learned fun facts about ocean conservation.

World Oceans Day provides an annual opportunity to celebrate our world's oceans and our personal connection to the sea. The United Nations declared June 8 as the official World Oceans Day in 2009 but the event has been celebrated unofficially since it was proposed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.

Since 1960, Dr. Seuss' One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish has been introducing young readers to fantastically funny creatures like the seven-humped Wump, the winking Yink, the boxing Gox, and more than a few fanciful fish. A simple yet utterly silly book, it creates a fun reading experience combining exuberant illustrations and text, while providing a colorful parallel to the diversity of our world oceans.

More than a standard aquarium, SEA LIFE provides an educational and interactive dynamic unlike any other. The SEA LIFE experience incorporates LEGO® models into a child's voyage to the depths of the ocean, presenting the wonders of the underwater world to them in a way specially designed for their understanding. Featuring play zones, fun facts and quiz trails, SEA LIFE is designed to be a child's guide to the life of the sea.
Kids 3-12 $13, Seniors 60+ $17; Adults $20. Visit www.sealifeus.com or call (760) 918-5346
