Pinchas Zukerman and Yefim Bronfman Perform in Recital at Walt Disney Concert Hall Tonight

Friends and collaborators violinist/violist Pinchas Zukerman and pianistYefim Bronfman perform in recital at Walt Disney Concert Hall, tonight, April 4, at8 pm. As part of their eight-city duo tour, the music powerhouses perform Schubert's Sonatina in A minor, D. 385, Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 7 in C minor, Op. 30, No. 2, and Brahms' Viola Sonata No. 1 in F minor, Op. 120, No. 1, which is the composer's own adaptation of a work he originally composed with the clarinet in mind. The performance is part of the LA Phil's 2013/14 Colburn Celebrity Recitals series.

The series presents virtuoso performances by world-renowned artists. Remaining recitals for the season are: pianists Katia and Marielle Labèque in a Minimalist Jukebox festival performance (April 8), and violinist Midori (April 23).

Pinchas Zukerman has remained a phenomenon in the world of music for over four decades. His musical genius, prodigious technique and unwavering artistic standards are a marvel to audiences and critics. Devoted to the next generation of musicians, he has inspired younger artists with his magnetism and passion. His enthusiasm for teaching has resulted in innovative programs in London, New York, China, Israel and Ottawa. The name Pinchas Zukerman is equally respected as violinist, violist, conductor, pedagogue and chamber musician.

His 2013/14 season includes over 100 worldwide performances, bringing him to multiple destinations in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Zukerman is currently in his 15th season as Music Director of the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Ottawa, with whom he toured China last fall. In his fifth season as Principal Guest Conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, he leads the ensemble in concerts in Spain, Russia and the United Kingdom and a nationwide tour of the United States. Additional orchestral engagements include the Vienna Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Salzburg Camerata, Israel Philharmonic, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and a return visit to Australia for appearances with the Sydney and Adelaide Symphonies and West Australian Symphony Orchestra in Perth. Spring recitals with pianist Yefim Bronfman take place throughout North America and the Zukerman Chamber Players perform at the Ravinia, Verbier and Miyazaki Festivals in addition to their third South American tour.

Yefim Bronfman is widely regarded as one of the most talented virtuoso pianists performing today. His commanding technique and exceptional lyrical gifts have won him consistent critical acclaim and enthusiastic audiences worldwide, whether for his solo recitals, his prestigious orchestral engagements or his rapidly growing catalogue of recordings. Bronfman was nominated for a Grammy award in 2009 for his Deutsche Grammophon recording of Esa-Pekka Salonen's Piano Concerto with Salonen conducting and with whom he won a Grammy award in 1997 for his recording of the three Bartók Piano Concertos with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. His performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with Andris Nelsons and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra from the 2011 Lucerne Festival is now available on DVD and his performance of Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic and Sir Simon Rattle was released on DVD by the EuroArts label. His most recent CD releases are the 2014 Grammy-nominated Magnus Lindberg's Piano Concerto No. 2 commissioned for him and performed by the New York Philharmonic conducted by Alan Gilbert on the Da Capo label, as well as Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No.1 with Mariss Jansons and the Bayerischer Rundfunk, a recital disc, Perspectives, complementing Bronfman's designation as a Carnegie Hall Perspectives artist for the 2007/08 season, and recordings of all the Beethoven Piano Concertos as well as the Triple Concerto together with violinist Gil Shaham, cellist Truls Mørk, and the Tönhalle Orchestra Zürich under David Zinman for the Arte Nova/BMG label.
