Could this cast get any more exciting??? Anthony Rapp has just been announced as joining the cast of If/Then, the new musical by the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning creative team behind Next To Normal, Tom Kitt (music), Brian Yorkey (book and lyrics), and Michael Greif (director). Mr. Rapp joins the previously announced Tony Award-Winners Idina Menzel and LaChanze in the world premiere musical. If/Then will play Broadway's Richard Rodgers Theatre (226 West 46th Street) in spring 2014, beginning preview performances on Tuesday, March 4, and officially opening on Thursday, March 27, 2014.

Anthony Rapp will play Lucas, an old college friend of Elizabeth (Idina Menzel), who reconnects with her when she moves back to New York City. Mr. Rapp and Ms. Menzel are reuniting in this production, having first appeared together in the original cast of Rent. Additional casting will be announced shortly.

Anthony Rapp is best known for originating the role of Mark Cohen in Jonathan Larson's Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, Rent, for which he shared an OBIE Award with the rest of the cast. He reprised his role in Chris Columbus' film version and recently played the role once more with original cast member Adam Pascal in a national tour. His other Broadway credits include his Broadway debut in Precious Sons with Judith Ivey and Ed Harris, for which he received an Outer Critics Circle Award and a Drama Desk nomination; the original company of John Guare's Six Degrees of Separation; and the revival of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. His Off-Broadway credits include Nicky Silver's Raised in Captivity, Jonathan Marc Sherman's Sophistry, Larry Kramer's The Destiny of Me, Dedalus Lounge at the InterArt Theatre Annex, and Some Americans Abroad at Second Stage Theatre, among others. His many film credits include Adventures in Babysitting, School Ties, Dazed and Confused, Six Degrees of Separation, Man of the Century, David Searching, The Other Woman, Road Trip, and A Beautiful Mind (SAG Award nomination for Ensemble). He has also appeared in Winter Passing, a film written and directed by his brother, Adam Rapp. Anthony will next be seen in the independent feature Junction opposite Michael O'Keefe. Anthony wrote the book, Without You: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and the Musical Rent (Simon & Schuster), about his struggle to balance the demands of life in the theatre with his responsibility to his family during his mother's battle with cancer. He recently adapted the book into a one-man show entitled Without You, which he has performed on stages both nationally and internationally. On television, Rapp has appeared in The Lazarus Man, The X-Files, The Beach Boys: An American Family, Kidnapped, Law & Order: SVU and Psych. In 2000, he released his debut album, Look Around. He has performed his music in clubs and colleges throughout the country.

On the verge of turning 40, Elizabeth moves back to New York City, the ultimate city of possibility, intent on a fresh start - new home, new friends, and hopes for a resurgent career. But even in her carefully planned new life, the smallest decision or most random occurrence will impact her world in ways she never dreamt possible. Set against the ever-shifting landscape of modern day Manhattan, If/Then is a romantic and original new musical about how choice and chance collide and how we learn to love the fallout.

If/Then will have its world premiere in a pre-Broadway out-of-town engagement at The National Theatre in Washington, D.C., beginning preview performances on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 and running through December 8, 2013.
