Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra Presents PROGRESSIONS Winter Concert, Today

Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra's Progressionsprogram, a high-impact, intensive string training program for early elementary students from City of Milwaukee schools, presents its annual Winter Concert on Thursday, January 30, 5:30 p.m., at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, 325 W. Walnut St., Milwaukee.

Launched in 2003, theProgressions Program was founded with the goal of increasing the participation of underrepresented populations in both the MYSO ensembles and music programs across Milwaukee. A decade later, the program has grown to 76 students and provides group lessons, orchestra training and intensive private lessons for violin, viola, cello and bass. The participants in the program are school-nominated third and fourth grade students from the City of Milwaukee and/or MPS schools.

The Progressions Winter Concert will feature solos, duets, small ensembles and orchestral performances by MYSOProgressions students.

The Progressions program is funded in part by a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) is one of the most successful and respected youth orchestra programs in the nation, regularly recognized regionally, nationally and internationally for its artistic excellence. With nearly 1,000 young musicians ages 8-18 from as many as 14 counties, 60 communities and 200 schools throughout southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois participating in MYSO's many music training programs, it has become one of the largest organizations of its kind in the United States.
