Ghostbusters first hit the big screen in 1984. It was a highly successful comedy; and finally, a third installment in the series is being added. However, Ivan Reitman, the original director, says he does not want to play a large role. He is willing to produce it, but not direct it.

Reitman made his decision after returning from a friend's funeral. He told Entertainment Weekly, "It wasn't that hard. When I came back from the funeral, I thought it would be better to turn the director's chores over to someone else and let me produce it."

Reitman explained that the movie itself will focus on new characters; and so, he figured someone new should direct it.
