Shadowbox Live is mounting their next original signature production, Circle of Blood: A Story of Betrayal, Honor and Vengeance inspired by the graphic novel "Kabuki" by New York Times Best Selling Graphic Author David Mack. Circle of Blood: A Story of Betrayal, Honor and Vengeance runs September 29 - November 12, 2017, for 29 performances at Shadowbox Live's theatre, 503 S. Front Street.

Building on prior successful productions, "The Tenshu" and "Gallery of Echoes," the company will create a multi-faceted live action production, an original musical score, and artwork lifted from the pages of the source material. The production will meld the experience of graphic novel reading with attending a live performance, in an effort to provide a unique and immersive experience for its audience. Video screens throughout the performance area will reveal the thoughts and memories of nearby characters, and illustrations from the actual "Kabuki" novel will serve as transition slides and backdrop art for scripted scenes with actors.

Shadowbox Live's Creative Team, a group with over 90 years combined theater experience, will be bringing Circle of Blood: A Story of Betrayal, Honor and Vengeance to the stage, in a collaborative production process that will allow for different elements of the show to be developed and rehearsed simultaneously. Stev Guyer, the company's founder and Artistic Director who produces and/or directs over 19 new productions annually, will be spearheading this effort. Chief Video Editor, David Whitehouse, will bring the skills he perfected in his creation of moving imagery for the critically acclaimed "Gallery of Echoes" series to the project, taking Mack's work and morphing it into a display that will reside somewhere between collaging and animation.

Following up on her success with "The Tenshu," Shadowbox Live Choreographer Katy Psenicka will meld modern dance into bursts of movement that will emphasize the deadly beauty of the title character and her antagonists. With an adapted script from Head Writer Jimmy Mak that moves with the pace of an action film, Circle of Blood: A Story of Betrayal, Honor and Vengeance is a project helmed by some of the region's most celebrated and experienced producers. It is poised to become a shining example of the relentless drive Shadowbox Live uses to create unprecedented, exciting experiences for its audiences.
