Barrington Stage Company (BSC), under the leadership of Julianne Boyd, Artistic Director, and TriStan Wilson, Managing Director, presents the Pulitzer and Tony-winning Clybourne Park from tonight, September 26 through October 13, on the Boyd-Quinson Mainstage. The press opening is Sunday, September 29 at 3pm.
Winner of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize and 2012 Tony Award, Clybourne Park is directed by
Giovanna Sardelli (BSC's Muckrakers, Lord of the Flies and The North Pool). Sardelli was featured earlier this year in the Sunday New York Times Arts & Leisure cover story about influential female directors. Clybourne Park is a co-production with Vermont's Dorset Theatre Festival (
Dina Janis, Artistic Director).
Inspired by A Raisin in the Sun, this wickedly funny and fiercely provocative play about race, real estate, and the volatile values of each won nearly every honor the theatre has to give, including the Tony Award for Best Play, Olivier Award, the Evening Standard Award and the Pulitzer Prize.
Clybourne Park's two acts are set 50 years apart. Act One takes place where the 1959 A Raisin in the Sun leaves off: with a white couple selling their home to a black family and causing uproar among their neighbors. Act Two takes place fifty years later with a black family selling the house to a white family who believe in urban gentrification - or do they?

Bruce Norris is the author of Clybourne Park, which won the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards (London) for Best Play, 2010, as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, 2011. Other plays include The Infidel (2000), Purple Heart (2002), We All Went Down to Amsterdam (2003), The Pain and the Itch (2004), The Unmentionables (2006) and A Parallelogram (2010) all of which had their premieres at
Steppenwolf Theatre, Chicago. His newest play, Domesticated, will be produced by Lincoln Center Theatre in 2013. His work has been seen at
Playwrights Horizons (New York), Woolly Mammoth Theatre (Washington D.C.) n (Chicago),
Philadelphia Theatre Company, and Staatstheater Mainz (Germany), among others. He is also the 2009 recipient of the Steinberg Playwright Award.
