The Secretary of State series MADAM SECRETARY comes from Barbara Hall (Joan of Arcadia) and Morgan Freeman.

Hall wrote the script, which centers on "a maverick female Secretary of State as she drives international diplomacy, wrangles office politics and balances a complex family life".

Arend will play 'Matt', a speechwriter for Secretary of State McGill (Leoni).

Arend will next be seen on the big screen in Worst Friends. Other recent movie credits include Beach Pillows, Save the Date, Devil, Peep World, (500) Days of Summer and more. Arend has appeared on TV in Body of Proof, The Closer, Medium, Private Practice, Trust Me, Greek and more. Arend also made two stage appearances off-Broadway in 2006 in Mother Courage and Her Children and The American Pilot.
