The Hollywood Reporter writes that Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) is in talks to star in Neill Blomkamp's next sci-fi movie CHAPPIE, with script by Terri Tatchell.

Read the original report here.

CHAPPIE is based on Blomkamp's previous short film called TETRA VAAL, a fictional ad for a robotic police force in the slums of South Africa. Patel would join Sharlto Copley, who has already signed on to play a police robot.

Patel's next projects include HBO's The Newsroom, as well as the movies The Man Who Knew Infinity and The Road Within. Past credits include The Last Airbender, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, About Cherry and the UK TV series Skins.

Blomkamp, who also directed District 9, will release his next pic, Elysium, on August 9, 2013.
