David Fincher & Sony Part Ways on Planned Steve Jobs Biopic

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures and David Fincher have ended their relationship on its planned Steve Jobs biopic, which has been in preproduction since 2012.

Fincher reportedly wanted $10 million up front for the project, featuring a script by Aaron Sorkin, in addition to input as to how to market the film.

Sources have confirmed that Fincher could possibly enter negotiations with the study again should he budge on his demands, though it doesn't seem likely. An insider said: "You're not doing Transformers here. You're not doing Captain America. This is quality - it's not screaming commerciality. He should be rewarded in success but not up front."

Fincher reportedly wanted Christian Bale for the film, though THR has confirmed that the actor isn't attached to the project.

Sorkin's script will be based upon Walter Issacson's bestselling authorized biography, a book that used 40 interviews Issacson had with Jobs and his colleagues.

Each scene was reportedly based in 'real time' and last approximately 30 minutes each, he said. Each scene will also coincide with a signifcant product launch for Jobs and his mega-brand Apple. Those product scenes include the original launch of the Macintosh computer in 1984, the NeXT Cube in 1990, and the original iPod which debuted in 2001.

Production was expected to begin either later this year or early 2015.

Though 2013's "Jobs" starring Ashton Kutcher wasn't as popular at the box office as most had hoped (grossing only 35 million worldwide), Sony is confident the nation remains interested in the man who developed some of the most popular products in our country today.
