Darlene Love first appeared on Broadway in 1985 in Leader of the Pack and has subsequently appeared in Carrie (Miss Gardner), Grease (Teen Angel), and Hairspray (Motormouth Maybelle). She is known for Phil Spector singles that her voice along with several others made famous, such as "He's a Rebel" and "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah." E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt made a promise to Love that he would produce an album with her, and just announced that he's making good on this three decade-old promise.

According to Rolling Stone, Van Zandt is in talks with many famous writers for the album, such as Elvis Costello, Carole King, Bruce Springsteen, and the duo of Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann.

The guitarist said he's hoping to have an "all-star album for Darlene, which she deserves."
