Colors of Community to Celebrate Female Playwrights, Directors at Third Event

Colors of Community will host the third event in their series on November 11, 2016 at the HSA Theater in Harlem School of Arts.

A socially conscious non-profit, sponsored, theater organization, Colors of Community was initially created in response to the strain between law enforcement and communities and has since continued to highlight necessary and current issues.

Colors of Community is produced by Bobby Daniel Rodriguez, Kaili Y. Turner, and Kim Rios Lin. All three Artists are Actors Studio Drama School Alumni & Labyrinth Theater Intensive Ensemble members who have come together on a mission to "to bridge the divides between communities through Theater and discourse amidst the perpetual tension of current events". Colors of Community "produces events which feature short plays that consider diverse viewpoints on current issues and their impact within communities." Previous events include themes of civil rights, classism, education, gender equality, the residue of imperialism, and the intensifying climate of distrust between law enforcement and community. Each event includes a post-performance open discussion led by a panel representative of the event's themes.

The November 11th series of Colors of the Community will discuss women's issues and female empowerment; racial relations; law enforcement and the community; and the black market of orphan rehoming. The featured plays were all written and directed by women. Ensuing discussion will feature an all-woman panel, moderated by a woman!
