SOMETHING ROTTEN! and SPOTLIGHT star Brian d'Arcy James is among the latest to join Danny Strong's upcoming J.D. Salinger film REBEL IN THE RYE.

According to Deadline, Laura Dern and Hope Davis have also boarded the project, which features previously announced Nicholas Hoult and Kevin Spacey.

Based on Kenneth Slawenski's biography J.D. SALINGER: A LIFE, the film centers on Salinger as he prepares to write his iconic novel CATCHER IN THE RYE.

Spacey will take on the role of 'Whit Burnett', described as "a professor at Columbia and editor of Story Magazine" who "became a mentor and was the first to challenge the young Salinger, inspiring him to grow as a storyteller."

No word on yet who the three new stars will portray.

Now starring in Broadway's SOMETHING ROTTEN!, Tony nominee d'Arcy James has appeared on the small screen in MOZART IN THE JUNGLE, LAW & ORDER: SVU, SMASH, THE GOOD WIFE, PERSON OF INTEREST, RESCUE ME and more. The actor can currently be seen on the big screen in SPOTLIGHT, which is up for several Oscars this year. Among his past Broadway credits are MACBETH, TIME STANDS STILL, NEXT TO NORMAL, SHREK THE MUSICAL, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, TITANIC, CAROUSEL and BLOOD BROTHERS.

Dern has the films THE TALE, WILSON and THE FOUNDER in her queue, as well as the TV adaptation of TWIN PEAKS. Among her recent TV credits are F IS FOR FAMILY and THE MINDY PROJECT.
