Some music comes to you, flaunting its charms. Other music beckons quietly, making you approach and asking that you allow yourself to be transported. Brendan Taaffe's music is in the second camp. An engaging performer with quirky banter and an instinctive connection to the audience, Brendan uses space and emotion-as well as considerable talent on the guitar-to craft songs that pull you in. Deeply devoted to a traditional aesthetic, Brendan is a performer who has found his own voice.

Lauded for "playing with heart as well as virtuosity" and for an "infectious voice", Brendan is a multi-instrumentalist with a musical appetite that ranges from traditional American and Irish fare to African influences. His songs and instrumentals invite you into a private but comfortable world-like eating at the kitchen table, where Irish songs and Zimbabwean mbiras share a place, old hymns take on new settings, and the spirit of Pete Seeger is strongly present. At home on both guitar and fiddle-as well as a variety of other instruments, Brendan honed his chops while living in the west of Ireland. Now based in Vermont, Brendan has played at festivals, concerts and dances throughout North America and Europe both solo and with his band, Magic Foot.

Little Boots, lauded for its blend of tradition and innovation, was released at the beginning of 2010. Marked by intelligent arrangements that meld Irish and American folk material with African instrumentation, Little Boots has gotten airplay on NPR's Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me and solicited for possible release by prominent label Putumayo. In addition to solo work, Brendan performs with prominent Irish dance band Magic Foot and has toured with Northern Harmony. His 2003 debut solo album, Come Sit By My Chair, "offers a seamless blend of fiddling and traditional songs." Brendan is also the author of Handy with the Stick, a book about Irish fiddling, and the founder of Turtle Dove, an organization that sponsors harmony singing for adults.
