Bay Street Theatre is thrilled to announce the latest addition of theatrical workshops to their programming line-up. This new initiative represents Bay Street's deep commitment to developing new works, and to providing a home for participating artists to explore and expand their creative inspirations.

The premier workshop kicks off during the first week in April, with Director/Writer Ethan Silverman's project Jack from Above, based on a true story by Jack Hofsiss. The workshop will bring a group of artists together at Bay Street for a week of rehearsing, developing, and reworking this new project, culminating in a public performance on Saturday, April 4 at 7pm.

Jack from Above tells the hilarious and harrowing true story of how Jack Hofsiss' disabling pool accident in Fire Island, took him on an outrageous wheel-chair bound journey beginning with his 'juicing' life in LA, all the way to Communist China with acupuncturist Dr. Ha, in search of a cure-- that he might be able to walk again. If only it wasn't all true.  And yet, while poignant, it is in fact quite hilarious.  In this workshop version, Jack Hofsiss will appear as himself as actor, rather than as director where he is best known as the Tony Award winning director of the original Broadway production of The Elephant Man.  Bay Street Theatre audiences are also familiar with his directorial work as seen in numerous shows over the years from Splendora to You Can't Take It With You to Pippin.

Another Bay Street favorite Matt McGrath will serve a dual role as both Assistant Director and Dramaturge, guiding the workshop thru the week. With the initiation of this first workshop, Bay Street will further its mission in a more concentrated way by allowing for the expansion and creation of new works, and allowing the artists to devote time and energy to their craft.  In addition, the audience provides an important piece of the puzzle by participating in the process of this creative work at the performance on Saturday evening.

The Workshop Series are supported by the Lucille Lortel Foundation, to whom Bay Street is greatly appreciative. Tickets for the April 4th performance of Jack from Above are $20 and may be purchased by calling the Box Office at 631-725-9500.  The Picture Show for this evening has been cancelled, although the now popular 10pm Cabaret at The Bay Series will follow the show that evening.
