Alan Menken & Stephen Schwartz's THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME to Make Scandinavian Premiere Next Fall

BroadwayWorld has just learned that Denmark's Fredericia Theater will welcome Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz's THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME to the stage next autumn. This Scandinavian premiere of the musical will open on October 14, 2016 before travelling to Copenhagen the following summer at The Royal Theater's Old Stage on June 23, 2017.

The musical will star Reumert Award-winning rising star Lars Mølsted as Quasimodo. Over the coming weeks and months, Fredericia Theater will hold auditions for all other roles.

Theatre Manager Søren Møller states: "It is with great joy and pride that we engage in a new spectacular Disney-adventure! THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME is a clear personal favorite both in terms of the amazing music and the brilliant book, and Fredericia is the first place outside the States where this version of the musical gets a production. Both at Fredericia Theater and The Royal Theater, the stage will be transformed as to create a more extravagant and intimate experience than ever seen before. All of Denmark can look forward to one more musical in a league of its own."

Based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME showcases Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz's Oscar-nominated score as well as new songs by Menken and Schwartz. A new book by Peter Parnell embraces story theatre and features verbatim passages from Hugo's gothic novel.

Developed by Disney Theatrical Productions for worldwide licensing, the title had its stage premiere at two leading theatres in the United States; La Jolla Playhouse in La Jolla, CA and Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ during their respective 2014/15 seasons. The Danish production marks the title's first international license. THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME will be licensed to professional regional theatres in the United States via Music Theatre International with performances beginning summer 2016.
