According to The Stage London's CANNIBAL! THE MUSICAL, which was set to open at the Leicester Square Theatre On July 27 has been cancelled after the rights for the show were withdrawn. It was expected the show would play a limited run through September 11, 2010.

Producer Frazer Brown stated in response: "We were still negotiating the small print, but the whole thing was done on a handshake and enthusiasm. We were in the final negotiations on profit share and incorporating outstanding royalty shares from the previous run, everything was amicable with no indication that the show wouldn't be going ahead. Otherwise tickets wouldn't have gone on sale." Brown also produced and directed the 2008 production in Edinburgh.

According to The Stage, Jason McHugh, who holds the rights, decided not to ultimately go ahead with the deal "because he is currently working on a new adaptation of the musical with Canadian producers."

CANNIBAL! THE MUSICAL is loosely based on the true story of Alferd Packer and the sordid details of the trip from Utah to Colorado that left his five fellow travellers dead and partially eaten. CANNIBAL! THE MUSICAL was originally a independent film directed and starring Trey Parker, co-creator of 'South Park.' In 2001, a stage production was staged Off-Broadway at the Kraine Theater on East 4th Street in New York.
