TheatreLAB to Present MY NAME IS RACHEL CORRIE This March

By:

TheatreLAB, Richmond's home for unexpected and evocative performance, will present Alan Rickman and Katharine Viner's theatrical adaptation of the personal journals and emails of Rachel Corrie, My Name is Rachel Corrie for The Cellar Series: When The Other Becomes The Self.

Directed by Heather Falks, and starring Kaelie James, the show will run from March 3rd to 11th at TheatreLAB's venue, The Basement (300 East Broad Street, RVA). My Name is Rachel Corrie is also presented as part of the 2017 Acts of Faith Fringe Festival.

More about the show - On March 16, 2003, Rachel Corrie, a 23-year-old American, was crushed to death by an Israeli Army bulldozer in Gaza as she was trying to prevent the demolition of a Palestinian home. My Name Is Rachel Corrie is a one-woman play composed from Rachel's own journals, letters, and emails - creating a portrait of a messy, articulate, Salvador Dali-loving chain-smoker (with a passion for the music of Pat Benatar), who left her home and school in Olympia, Washington, to work as an activist in the heart of Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

From Associate Artistic Director, Katrinah Carol Lewis: "When the other becomes the self; when we see ourselves in other people, we begin to understand that we belong to each other. We are one organism. Why do we keep killing and harming each other? Ourselves? Perhaps we have forgotten that we are one. Maybe we need to help each other to remember."

The production team includes Direction by Heather Falks; Lighting Design by Erin Barclay; Costume and Props Design by Monica Geraffo; Sound and Projection Design by Kelsey Cordrey; with Dramaturgy and Stage Management by Jessica Dodson.

My Name is Rachel Corrie opens this Friday, March 3rd and runs for a special two-weekend engagement through March 11th. Post-show talkbacks will take place on March 5th after the 4pm performance and on March 7th after the 8pm Industry Night performance (with discounted tickets for only $15). Full schedule at TheatreLABrva.org. Seating is limited and ticket prices range from $10-25. Tickets are on sale online.
