Millennium Stage, now celebrating its 22nd season, is a manifestation of the Kennedy Center's mission and vision to welcome all to celebrate our collective cultural heritage in the most inclusive, accessible way possible. Millennium Stage is the only place in the United States to offer a free performance every day of the year that is streamed live on the internet.

DIRECT CURRENT, the Kennedy Center's two-week celebration of contemporary culture, returns for a second season from March 24 April 7. Training its focus on new works, interdisciplinary creations in which artistic worlds collide, and innovative responses to topical concerns, the 2019 spring immersion showcases some of the most provocative, original, and pioneering voices in the arts today. Each evening during DIRECT CURRENT, free live multi-genre performances will be presented on the Millennium Stage to amplify the wealth of the festival.

On March 29, Bay Area dance group sjDANCEco will join forces with local choreographer Gabriel Mata (part of DIRECT CURRENT) to demonstrate the power and poetry of dance through choreography that is both contemporary and classic modern, spanning more than 60 years of creativity. The powerful performance features Jos Lim n's The Exiles, inspired by the tumultuous exodus during and following WWII, Maria Basile's stirring The Upward Spiral, a new work by Gabriel Mata that merges dance and physical theater, and a group collaborative that explores the multi-generational experiences of its cast.

Latin Grammy winner Gaby Moreno performs on the Millennium Stage on March 2 with her original blend of jazz, blues, and 1960s rock and soul that has earned her the respect and appreciation of audiences worldwide. Other highlights include Noreum Machi, the most widely recognized Korean traditional drumming, dance, and acapella band (March 4); Marta Pereira da Costa, the pre-eminent professional Fado guitarist in the world (March 9); the Iranian Female Composers Association and Hypercube's program of Iranian female composers (March 30, part of DIRECT CURRENT); and Revert to Sea, a new multimedia work inspired by the comedic writings of Japanese author Ry Murakami performed by an all star ensemble of avant garde improvisers (March 31, part of DIRECT CURRENT).

A full schedule of Millennium Stage performances for the month of March 2019 is below. Unless otherwise noted, performances will take place in the Kennedy Center Grand Foyer, and no tickets are required. Performances are open to television and radio news coverage.
