Forum Theatre Opens World Premiere of MEENA'S DREAM Tonight

By:

Forum Theatre's 10th Anniversary Season continues with the World Premiere of Meena's Dream, written and performed by Forum Ensemble Member, Anu Yadav, directed by Patrick Crowley, and with music composed and performed by Anjna Swaminathan, Rajna Swaminathan, and Sam McCormally, tonight, January 8 - 18, 2014.

Through Forum Theatre's new Forum for All initiative all walk-up tickets are Pay What You Want. A limited number of advance sale tickets will be available to each show online or by phone.

During the day, nine-year-old Meena wishes that her mother could get the medicine she needs; and by night, Hindu God Lord Krishna appears, entreating Meena's help in his war against the Worry Machine. Meena's Dream creates a fantastical world through storytelling and live music, from South Indian classical to indie folk.

"Ultimately this is about a young girl whose own imagination helps her wrestle with her fears, and who desperately wants a world where her mother can get the medicine she needs, regardless of whether or not they can pay it." says writer and performer, Anu Yadav. "Inside she feels and knows her creativity and power, but on the outside, she feels invisible to the world, and powerless to help her mother who simply can't afford the healthcare to get better. This is about a young girl who decides to unabashedly use her imagination to conquer her fears and envision a world where everyone, including her family, can have enough."

"Like Natsu Onoda Power with The T Party and Stephen Spotswood with We Tiresias, it's really exciting to continue developing new work with our ensemble members." said Forum Artistic Director, Michael Dove. "I have been a massive fan of Anu for many years and it's really a privilege to develop this play with her and have her on Forum's stage. Meena's Dream is a very special piece by one of the most unique theatrical voices around."

Creative team includes scenic designer John Bowhers, costume designer Ivania Stack, lighting designer Sarah Tundermann, sound designer Thomas Sowers*, and stage manager Beth Ribar.

Performances are Wednesday-Saturday at 8:00 PM and Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 PM. There will also be Student Matinee productions - dates to be determined.

Open Forum discussions will follow all Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday evening performances.
