By: Oct. 21, 2011

Town Hall Theater announces their ucoming event Wagner Explained: Expert Jerry Shedd set to speak on The Ring Cycle's Siegfried.

A pet bear! A singing dragon! A sleeping beauty! Join local composer and conductor Jerry Shedd for another evening of fun and inspiration as we prepare for the live Met broadcast of the third music drama in Wagner's Ring Cycle: Siegfried. Jerry will do some story-telling with emphasis on the musical motives in the orchestra.

Native Vermonter Jerome Shedd holds a master's degree in composition from the Crane School of Music. He has written for band, chorus, orchestra, chamber ensembles, solo instruments, and voice. His Second Symphony was commissioned by the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, and was premiered in Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in 2007. He and his wife Lindi Bortney are active in community musical life, and are members of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra Chorus. Mr. Shedd conducted Of Thee I Sing for White River Valley Players, and The Music Man for Middlebury Community Players. He is conductor of the Middlebury Community Wind Ensemble ("Midd Winds"), which premiered his Addison Peaks in 2005.

Shedd's talk will take place at the Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance facility on the Porter Hospital campus on Thursday, November 3 at 7:00 pm. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted and will benefit the Opera Company of Middlebury. Seating is general admission. The talk will run approximately 90 minutes.
