Bluegrass Night Held At Town Hall Theater 9/23

By:

Fiery picking, hot fiddle licks and tight harmonies - that's bluegrass, and it's coming to Middlebury's Town Hall Theater on Friday, September 23.

Headlining the evening is Snake Mountain Bluegrass, a four-piece band based in Middlebury. Middlebury College teacher Gregg Humphrey and Middlebury construction company owner Mike Connor formed Snake Mountain Bluegrass about twenty-five years ago. At the time, both Gregg (guitar and vocals) and Mike (banjo and vocals) were living near Snake Mountain, and when someone asked them what style of bluegrass they played, "Snake Mountain Bluegrass," was their immediate response. It's been the band's name ever since.

Snake Mountain Bluegrass will present a repertoire of songs covering traditional and modern bluegrass, including many original tunes. Tight harmony singing is a hallmark of the group, which includes Earle Provin on mandolin and resophonic guitar, and Mike Schuster on stand-up bass.

Also on the bill are Lesley Grant and Stepstone. Grant is one of Vermont's newest country stars. Her band features a blend of country, folk, and bluegrass styles. She and guitar player, Mark Struhsacker, harmonize in the classic country duet style and have penned original songs for their sets.

And in the spirit of the variety show format, Snake Mountain Bluegrass has arranged for some "special guests" who will delight and surprise everyone.

Bluegrass Night comes to Town Hall Theater on Friday, September 23, at 8 pm. Tickets are $17 general, $10 students, and may be purchased at www.townhalltheater.org, 802 382-9222, at the THT Box Office (Mon-Sat, noon-5 pm) and at the door, if available.
