Tim Pigott-Smith and Full Cast Announced for Royal & Derngate's Revival of DEATH OF A SALESMAN
Widely considered to be one of the greatest plays of the twentieth century, Death of a Salesman is about the cost of not being able to let go of the American Dream.
The iconic role of Willy Loman will be played by Tim Pigott-Smith, who in 2016 was nominated for both an Olivier and Tony Award for West End and Broadway hit King Charles III, a role which he is reprising in a television adaptation for the BBC to be broadcast this Spring. His memoirs of a lifetime onstage Do You Know Who I am? will be published by Bloomsbury Continuum to coincide with the tour.
Willy Loman's son Biff is played by Michael Marcus (Two Gentlemen of Verona, Royal Shakespeare Company; Richard II, Donmar Warehouse), with Ben Deery (A Mad World My Masters, Royal Shakespeare Company) as Biff's brother Happy. Linda Loman is played by Pamela Miles (Utopia, Soho Theatre;Pygmalion Old Vic and tour) and Uncle Ben is played by Mitchell Mullen (The American Wife, Park Theatre). Geff Francis (Sheppey, Orange Tree; Caligula, Donmar Warehouse) plays Charley, and the cast is completed by Sujaya Dasgupta as Jenny/Miss Forsythe, Amelia-Rose Morgan as Letta,Thom Tuck as Howard/Stanley, Connie Walker as Miss Francis and Michael Walters as Bernard.
Death of a Salesman is directed by acclaimed emerging director Abigail Graham whose production of Molly Sweeney played recently at The Print Room and Lyric Belfast. Design is by Georgia Lowe, who recently designed Yen at the Royal Court and Pomona and The Night Watch at the Royal Exchange. The lighting designer is Matt Haskins (Turn of the Screw, Opera North, The Commission, Royal Opera House) and composition and sound design is by GiLes Thomas, whose credits include Wish List and I See You at the Royal Court.
Fight direction is by Brett Yount whose work has been seen on the stages of the RSC and National Theatre and dialect is by Martin McKellan who is Head of Voice at Shakespeare's Globe.
Death of a Salesman will open Royal & Derngate's Made in Northampton 2017 season and is the venue's first independent tour.

On the brink of unemployment and haunted by missed opportunities, he feels abandoned by those around him and ignored by his country. Why does the world no longer work for him? Has his American dream become a nightmare? Death of a Salesman shows how this man, his family and his country face their uncertain future."
In 2015 Royal & Derngate was awarded the UK Theatre Management Award for Best Presentation of Touring Theatre and in 2016 Royal & Derngate was jointly awarded the UK Theatre Award for Best Touring Production for The Herbal Bed.
