The Point Announces Summer Dance Programs

A regional powerhouse for contemporary dance, The Point has a busy season of professional work and development opportunities, suitable for all ages this summer.

The 9th annual European Aerial Dance Festival returns to The Point for a third year, running 6th to 18th August. Curated by Gravity & Levity, the two-week festival welcomes budding aerialists from around the world to Eastleigh for intensive courses in skills including cyr wheel, trapeze and corde lisse.

There are plenty of opportunities for people to get involved this season, as the venue launches Wellbeing Sundays; a new-for-2018 initiative that invites everyone to get into the spirt of summer through dance. The new strand comprises of classes in yoga, Pilates, and Samba and takes place on three weekends across July.

Professional development opportunities for artists, practitioners and teachers include Café Choreographique, an informal space for new dance work to be shared, on Friday 13th July; and Doodle Dance Teacher Training, an exciting new course that will aid career development, on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th June.

Leading integrated dance company Stopgap host the annual Integrate Summer School, inviting young people aged 14-25 to come together and choreograph new dance work in The Point's Creation Space. Suitable for disabled and non-disabled dancers, the inclusive course takes place Monday 20th to Friday 24th August.

The Point has a wide range of dance classes taking place throughout summer, including early years introductory sessions in Ballet, mixed-level tap, and accessible sessions for young people and adults.

The venue also plays host to three unmissable dance events with the Rambert School Showcase on Friday 29th June, annual community platform Hothouse on Sunday 1st July and An Evening with Hampshire Youth Dance Company on Friday 20th July.
