THE NIGHTS are finally getting lighter, so April is the perfect time to visit The Marlowe Studio.

The month kicks off with drama in the form of SparkPlug (Monday 1 April), a punchy and poetic exploration of family, race, identity and love. Inspired by autobiographical events, it tells the story of a white man who becomes the adoptive father, mother and best friend of a mixed-race child, David.

Next up is Boulder (Friday 5 and Saturday 7 April), a new re-telling of the Greek myth of Sisyphus by local company Half A String and featuring live music composed and performed by Avi Simmons.

Morgan & West return to The Marlowe Studio, this time with Parlour Tricks (Saturday 13 April). These time-travelling magicians will wow audiences with their mind-boggling magic.

If what's needed is a laugh, there's the regular Alternative Comedy Show (Wednesday 10 April) and Glenn Wool with Wool's Gold (Friday 12 April), in which award-winning comedian and new dad Glenn dives into his archives.

For little ones, there's a selection of shows to choose from. All At Sea (Thursday 11 April) is a family show from The Noise Next Door, the UK's premier comedy improv troupe. The Land Of Nod (Wednesday 17 April) is a magical story about sleep for young children and their families. As well as their show for adults, Morgan & West will be presenting their children's show Utterly Spiffing (Saturday 13 April).

At The Marlowe Kit on Stour Street there'll be Hansel & Gretel (Friday 12 April), a colourful puppet retelling of the classic Grimms' fairy tale. LickitySpit (Wednesday 17 April), Canterbury's new poetry slam event, will see a guest headliner (to be announced) bringing the best the scene has to offer.

All these shows are now on sale. Tickets can be booked by visiting www.marlowetheatre.com or by calling the Box Office on 01227 787787.
