THE MAKING OF A WOMAN Comes to Brighton Fringe, Now thru May 23
THE MAKING OF A WOMAN, created and perfomed by Grégoire Aubert and accompanied by Ellen Campbell, plays at the Iambic Arts Theatre, 38 Regent Street, from tongith, May 5 to May 23 as part of the Brighton Fringe Festival.
Aubert said: "In the first place, the show was conceived as a tribute to Rodgers and Hammerstein’s heroines but very quickly the question: “What binds me to these heroines?” came to mind… I then began delving into my childhood, recollecting memories of my desire to become a woman, not in real life, but as a performer. The Making of a Woman tells the story and the path that led from the dream of being a female impersonator to the reality of such a dream. The memories were transformed into a fiction where the songs were the construction of this identity; a boy in a wardrobe lying with his dresses and make-up imitates his favourite stars and eventually finds his own personality and shares it with the world. The result is an intimate musical tale made of silent scenes and songs: both nostalgic and funny, peculiar and universa."
Aubert studied Visual Arts at the University of Picardy and Stage direction at The National Theatre of Strasbourg's Drama School.
Campbell is a pianist, trombonist and musical director from Staffordshire, where she played in regional and national youth orchestras and in the pit for local amateur shows. After gaining a media degree Ellen moved to Brighton and has been involved in a number of local shows including Les Miserables, West Side Story and most recently We Will Rock You. She also plays in the Brighton based funk/pop band The Grand Majestic.
The performance schedule is May 5th -6th -7th at 9.30pm / 13th at 8pm /14th -15th at 9pm / 21st at 7.30pm / 23rd at 7pm.
