THE GREAT GATSBY to Play Blackeyed Theatre

By:

Immersing you in the decadence of America's Jazz Age, The Great Gatsby is brought to life in this sizzling new stage adaptation from acclaimed Blackeyed Theatre. Commissioned to mark the 90th anniversary of the novel's publication, this production will embark on a 98 date tour across the UK from September 2015.

Recreating the sights, sounds and feel of America's Roaring Twenties, as seen through the eyes of Nick Carraway, F. Scott Fitzgerald's masterpiece is a brilliant evocation of a society obsessed with wealth and status.

Adapted by Stephen Sharkey, whose work includes The May Queen (Liverpool Everyman) and The Resistible Rise Of Arturo Ui (Liverpool Playhouse/Nottingham Playhouse), this exciting new production features fabulous live music alongside the timeless language of Fitzgerald's 'Great American Novel' to create a truly fresh and inspiring theatrical experience.

Remaining faithful to the spirit and language of the original, this adaptation brings the much- loved novel to life to create a fresh, character-driven piece of theatre. Writer Stephen Sharkey comments, Like a cocktail-fuelled ride in a fast car, this adaptation moves through F. Scott Fitzgerald's great story of a doomed love and a decadent decade, heading toward its final, inevitable crash.

Director Eliot Giuralarocca says, Stephen Sharkey has shaped and distilled Fitzgerald's novel into a muscular and narrative-driven portrait of the Jazz Age, full of cool, sexy, stiletto-sharp dialogue as cool as ice in a cocktail. Throw into the mix our wonderful design team along with an ensemble of seven fabulously talented actors, who all sing, dance and play instruments, and I hope we have all the ingredients needed to give the audience a wonderful party and bring Fitzgerald's Great American masterpiece roaring into life.

The Great Gatsby was voted the 20th century's best American novel by the Modern Library editorial board. Now a stellar cast including Adam Jowett (Emmerdale, Last Tango In Halifax, Macbeth (Oldham Coliseum)), Tristan Pate (Dusty (Charing Cross Theatre), Dreamboats and Petticoats (UK Tour and West End), Cider With Rosie (Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham and UK Tour)) and Stacey Ghent (Sondheim: Women (St. James Theatre), Father Christmas (Lyric Hammersmith), The Opinion Makers (Mercury Theatre and Derby Theatre)), as well as Tom Neill, Celeste De Veazey, Celia Cruwys-Finnigan and Max Roll bring this world premiere to life on stages across the UK.

The production is supported by The National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Box Office Tickets are available from theatres. See www.blackeyedtheatre.co.uk
