LATIN! OR TOBACCO AND BOYS Directed by: Adam Spreadbury-Maher, Designed by: Sophie Mosberger

Almost thirty years before Twitter, Stephen Fry's razor sharp wit was discovered in LATIN! OR TOBACCO AND BOYS. In the Classics department of a late 1970's prep school a young school master has more than just Latin textbooks in his hands. His scheme to become headmaster is disrupted when his extra-curricular activities with a 13 year-old pupil are uncovered by a rival senior colleague. An outrageous comedy of buggery and blackmail ensues. Mixing immorality and hilarity - this is vintage Fry at its very best.

LAST DRINKS Directed by: Nathan Godkin, Designed by: Sophie Mosberger

A script that pays homage to the Samuel Beckett quote "nothing is funnier than unhappiness". Drinking their way through the last barrel in an East End pub, four motley boozers stave off closing time with bizarre explorations of their absurd existence. Meanwhile the clock ticks on and the wind outside threatens oblivion. Where has their memory gone? Why are they so lucid after a whole barrel of ale? Is the landlady really the landlady?... Is it LAST DRINKS yet?

Formed in January 2009 The c*ckTavern Theatre is rapidly establishing itself at the forefront of the London Fringe. Under the artistic leadership of Adam Spreadbury-Maher it is committed to seeking out and providing a platform for tomorrow's leading playwrights and directing talent.

The theatre company Good Night Out Presents (GNOP) began in August 2008. After a residency at The White Bear Theatre, they now manage The c*ckTavern Theatre. GNOP's world premiere of Studies For A Portrait (Time Out Critics' Choice) recently transferred to Oval House for a month long run. Previous productions include the sell-out Cosi starring Mark Little and the extended run of The Backroom (Time Out 4-stars). GNOP first worked with Duncan Ley when they produced the world premiere of The Ides of March (Time Out 4-stars) in December, 2008.

Australian-Irish director Adam Spreadbury-Maher, 27, trained at London's Central School of Speech and Drama. He is Artistic Director of Good Night Out Presents and The c*ckTavern Theatre. He won an Australia Critics' Circle Award in 2004 for his production of Beautiful Thing. Recent credits include Cosi (What's On Stage & TNT 4-stars), The Ides of March by Duncan Ley (Time Out 4-stars) and Studies For A Portrait (Time Out Critics' Choice) which was snapped up by Oval House for a month long run. He has directed at Oval House, New End, Etcetera, Arcola and White Bear Theatres. Adam is preparing to direct the next London revival of Peter Gill's The York Realist at Riverside Studios.

Nathan Godkin has had two affairs with absurdism: as Jean in Ionesco's Rhinoceros (Laughing Monkey Productions, Australia), and in the UK premiere of Tardieu's two-hander The Client (BAC). He has directed for Green Cyc Theatre (Australia), and two short films. An accomplished stand-up comic and hardcore circus MC, he has written/directed/performed on TV and stage including several Melbourne Comedy Festival shows. Nathan also had a two year role in Neighbours (as Pinhead). Nathan comes straight from his role as Assistant Director for GNOP's Studies For A Portrait at Oval House. His first GNOP production was playing Zac in Cosi; he has since worked as dialect coach on The Backroom and Studies For A Portrait.

During his time at Queens' College, Cambridge Stephen Fry appeared in over thirty plays. LATIN! OR TOBACCO AND BOYS was written for the Cambridge Footlights in 1980 and won a Fringe First at the Edinburgh Festival the same year. His adaptation of Me and Me Girl (written 1984) had an eight year West End run and was nominated for a Tony Award in 1987. A critically acclaimed author, comedian, actor, television presenter and director. We feel that Stephen would approve of his play being produced at a venue we all refer to as The Cock!

Australian based playwright Duncan Ley's awards include Best Original Work of the Year for The Burning and Best Play of the Year for In Cold Light at the Canberra Area Theatre Awards. In Cold Light is currently being made into a feature film by Peter Slee Productions, Sydney. Duncan's works have been published by Playscripts Inc. and he is also an Associate Writer for the Motion Picture Company, Sydney. The world premiere of The Ides Of March was produced by GNOP at The White Bear Theatre to critical acclaim "absorbing accomplishments, which shine from every chilling scene" (Time Out 4-stars).
