Scarborough's Stephen Joseph Theatre Announces New Shows For The Autumn Image

A lively autumn season at Scarborough's Stephen Joseph Theatre includes comedy, cabaret, drama and drag.

Between late September and mid-November, the theatre will welcome artists including RuPaul's Drag Race star Jinkx Monsoon, leading UK magician and comedian Pete Firman and an adaptation of children's favourite, Tabby McTat.

More shows for the autumn at the SJT are due to be announced soon.

From Thursday 27 to Saturday 29 September, Small Truth Theatre will present Caterpillar, a darkly funny, searing and tender drama. Bayview is the only B&B closed for business on the busiest weekend of the year in a faded seaside town - and the annual 'Birdman' competition is in full flight...

On Wednesday 3 October, Smashing Mirrors will present Three Emos, a new musical by Elizabeth Godber. Emos Ruth, Nat and Liv spend their days working dead-end jobs in Hull, and their nights at open mic sessions. But Nat's gran being diagnosed with dementia takes them in a new direction...

Drag Me To Love (Thursday 4 October) is a new show from Bonnie and The Bonnettes, an autobiographical piece combining drag performance and theatrical storytelling in the tale of a 14-year-old drag queen in Doncaster in 2009.

Shakespeare's Henry V (Tuesay 9 to Saturday 13 October) is the latest show from the renowned Tobacco Factory Theatres, Bristol, and features Ben Hall (tutor Donald in Tv's The Durrells) in the title role.

Freckle Productions bring their world premiere stage adaptation of Tabby McTat, based on the book by The Gruffalo creators, writer Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler, for two performances in the Round on Sunday 14 October.

Set on the border of two countries at war, Kukunor/Kalahari (Monday 15 October) questions the possibility of making contact with another person despite restriction, whilst dealing with the traumatic realities of war through the world of dreams. It's presented in both English and British Sign Language.

Award-winning comedian Adam Kay shares entries from his diary as a junior doctor in an evening of stand-up and music which sold out at the Edinburgh Fringe in both 2016 and 2017. This is Going to Hurt (Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor) can be seen on Tuesday 16 October.

One of the UK's most popular magicians, Pete Firman is back on the road with his unique blend of jaw-dropping magic and laugh-out-loud comedy (Thursday 18 October).

Skin A Cat (Friday 19 and Saturday 20 October) follows Alana on an awkward, wickedly funny sexual odyssey, from getting her first to watching bad porn, to a painful examination by an overly cheery gynaecologist - all in pursuit of losing her virginity and finally becoming a woman. Whatever that means...

Also on Saturday 20 October, Ensemble 360 return to the Round with a programme of music including Beethoven's Sonata for horn and piano, Haydn's 'Sun' String Quartet and Mozart's Piano Quartet in G minor.

And RuPaul's Drag Race star Jinkx Monsoon and sidekick Major Scales return to the SJT with a new show, The Ginger Snapped (Saturday 10 November).

Booking for all these shows at the SJT is now open.
