Robert Powell And Susan Jameson Visit Theatre Royal Winchester

On Sunday 9th December Robert Powell and Susan Jameson visit Theatre Royal Winchester for A Victorian Christmas; a lookback at the history of the festive season.

The evening is a celebration of the 200th anniversary of Queen Victoria's birth, and the birth of Christmas as we know it during her reign. During this time Prince Albert introduced the Christmas tree to England in 1846, the first greeting cards were sent in 1861, Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol was released, and the traditional roast turkey was popularised.

The evening's festive spirit will be enhanced by the familiar and much-loved music of Mendelssohn, Vivaldi, Debussy and Joplin as the auditorium is brought to life by traditional tunes and carols with Robert Powell and Susan Jameson guest starring. Susan is known for playing a wide-range of roles on TV, including the hugely popular New Tricks. Robert is a veteran star of British television, and famously known for his role in Franco Zeffirelli's miniseries Jesus of Nazareth.

A Victorian Christmas has been programmed as part of the venue's December festivities, alongside live music from Blake (11th) and The Spitfire Sisters (20th); pantomime fun with Beauty and the Beast (1st December to 6th January 2019); and family event Santa's Christmas Party (17th).
