Norwich and Norfolk Festival 2010 Programme Announced

On the day after Norwich was confirmed as one of the four shortlisted cities for UK City of Culture 2013 Norfolk & Norwich Festival today announced the line up for the 238th year of Norfolk & Norwich Festival. From 7 to 22 May the city of Norwich will be transformed into an enormous theatre cum concert hall cum playground as the Festival's furthest ever reaching programme unfolds.

With more than 350 performances in 16 days, Norfolk & Norwich Festival is one of the top five city festivals in the UK. This year's highlights include the UK premi re of the momentous new work by Jordi Savall, Jerusalem: a city of two peaces and a host of commissions and premi res in the worlds of music, dance, theatre and visual arts as well as a major programme of free outdoor events, installations and spectaculars.

May's line up includes names as diverse as former Velvet Underground front man, John Cale, Michael Nyman with David McAlmont, Leif Ove Andsnes, John McLaughlin, Tim Etchells, Camille Sullivan, CocoRosie and Dan Jones with the world premi re of his Suburban Counterpoint: Music for Seven Ice Cream Vans.
Artistic director and chief executive Jonathan Holloway said: The scale, breadth and sheer audacity of this year'ss Norfolk & Norwich Festival is testament to the energy, drive and appetite for performing and visual arts in the East of England.

This is a Festival that refuses to be categorised. Its classical music heritage is enviable, its hunger for extraordinary new theatre, dance and circus is palpable and its free outdoor performances and events are some of the best on the international festival circuit.


Norfolk & Norwich Festival is funded by Arts Council England, Norfolk County Council and Norwich City Council with its principal sponsor for the 17th year, National Express East Anglia.
