New Psychological Thriller BLOOD RUNS DEEP To Make Its Debut At The Unity Theatre ImagePrepare to be chilled to the bone when psychological thriller BLOOD RUNS DEEP receives its premiere in Liverpool this autumn.

The new play, presented by Break A Leg Productions in association with Bill Elms, comes to the Unity Theatre from Wednesday 10 October to Saturday 13 October.

BLOOD RUNS DEEP is written by Emma Culshaw and David Paul (The Ruby Slippers, Achy Breaky Bride) and directed by Jackie Downey (The Ruby Slippers at Lantern Theatre), tickets are on sale now.

Set in the 1990s, single mother Karen Richards is on the run with her unsuspecting son, praying she can hide their chilling family secret and live a normal life. When an unwelcome visitor arrives at her home, the truth catches up with her, resulting in terrifying consequences.

The two-act thriller, set on a northern council estate, stars Alice Merivale as Zoe and John Schumacher as Greg. More casting will be announced soon.

Alice Merivale is from Liverpool and trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Her credits include A Pacifist's Guide to the War on Cancer at the National Theatre Studio, 15,16,17 - Old Vic New Voices, and 1 in 3, Upstairs at the Gatehouse.

Former North-West Comedian of the Year John Schumacher has recently finished a successful run of A Midsummer Night's Dream and Romeo and Juliet with Daniel Taylor Productions at the Epstein Theatre. His other credits include the UK tour of Quadrophenia, The Comedy of Errors at the RSC, and E4's Party House.

Writers Emma Culshaw and David Paul said: "Blood Runs Deep is a chilling, psychological thriller and explores the themes of truth, identity, natural instinct and family loyalty.

"Each of the four characters must come face to face with a disturbing and unpalatable truth. We wanted to examine how necessary it was to tell the truth. Maybe some secrets have a reason to stay hidden? Can we cause more damage by being honest? Or is the truth something that we can never escape?

"We were also very interested in what is inherited through the family line at birth and the bonds within families. How do genetics factor in shaping our decision making and personality? Is it free will that draws a person to the darker aspects in life or can our biology be to blame?"

The play is produced by Break A Leg Productions in association with theatre producer Bill Elms. This is their second collaboration after the acclaimed comedy drama The Ruby Slippers.

Bill Elms said: "I'm excited we're bringing this fantastic new show to the Unity. The theatre has a long-standing reputation for championing new and ambitious writing, and I'm sure Unity audiences are going to be on the edge of their seats as the blood-chilling action unfolds."

When the truth surfaces there is no escape!
