Local Student Takes To The Professional Stage With Swanage Rep

Local Swanage student, Hamish Macleod, will be taking to the Mowlem Theatre Stage alongside the professional actors in Swanage Rep's production of The Railway Children this August.

Hamish, 16, from Corfe Castle will play the role of Jim and join the ensemble in this brand new musical adaptation of Edith Nesbit's much-loved classic. Hamish, who completed his GCSEs at the Swanage School this year, will gain valuable experience of working in professional rep theatre before beginning his drama A level studies at Brockenhurst College in September. He was previously a member of the Bournemouth Youth Theatre.

Hamish said "Working with Swanage Rep is a massive opportunity for me. I feel extremely privileged to be working with such a skilled company. Repertory theatre is a high intensity style of theatre and working with them will give a young actor like me an amazing, unmissable opportunity to further my knowledge of the industry and develop my confidence and talent."

The Railway Children runs from Tuesday 14th to Saturday 18th August at 7.30pm, with a matinee performance at 2.30pm on Saturday. The production will be directed by Robert Marsden, who directed all three shows in Swanage Rep's opening season at the Mowlem Theatre in Summer 2017. Robert said "I'm thrilled to be returning to Swanage and the Mowlem Theatre. We had such a fantastic response from the community last year and we are looking forward to seeing some familiar faces at this year's shows. I'm also delighted that Hamish will be joining the cast. Its a fantastic opportunity for a young actor to gain a real insight in to the professional theatre world. And we're sure he'll be a star of the future!"
