Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo Come to Birmingham Hippodrome in February

By:

After a two-year absence the much loved Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, affectionately known as "The Trocks" by their fans, return to Birmingham Hippodrome on Friday 1 & Saturday 2 February 2013.

First established back in 1974 creating small cabaret performances in off-Broadway lofts, the troupe has now performed in over 30 countries and in over 500 cities around the world - their frenzied annual schedule has included seven tours to Australia and New Zealand, 26 to Japan, ten to South America, three tours to South Africa, and 64 tours of Europe. In the United States, the company has become a regular part of the college and university circuit, in addition to regular dance presentations in cities in 49 states.

Audiences may recognise the company from their show stopping routine on The Royal Variety Performance in 2008 and attract repeat visitors with their hilarious on stage antics year upon year. With one foot in farce and the other in classical ballet, "The Trocks" dance a fine line between high art and high camp. The all-male dance troupe celebrate both the beauty and the essential absurdity of classical ballet performing en pointe in glittering tutus, combining a loving knowledge of dance with a wicked sense of fun.

Under the artistic direction of Tory Dobrin, who first joined the company as a dancer in 1980, the company's professional male dancers faithfully bring to life some of the greatest moments of classical ballet, displaying startling technique complimented by side-splitting humour. "The Trocks" are also the proud winners of the Critics' Circle National Dance Awards (2007) and the TMA Theatre Award (2006).

The programme during their Birmingham performances, which is subject to alteration, will be Les Sylphides/Pas de Deux/La Vivandière/Walpurgis Night.

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo plays at Birmingham Hippodrome Fri 1 & Sat 2 Feb 2013. Performance times: Eves 7:30pm, Sat Mat 2.30pm. Tickets: £15-£34.50. Free post-show talk Fri 1 Feb.
