Lemn Sissay Creates a Series of Talks and Performances for The Marlowe and Wise Words

Lemn Sissay, Canterbury's Poet Laureate, has created a series of talks and performances especially for The Marlowe and Wise Words.

Exploring extraordinary stories of resilience, the series starts on Tuesday 5 December, with a rare chance to see a reading of Lemn's acclaimed one-man play, Something Dark.

Telling the story of his upbringing in children's homes and foster care, and the search for his family and true identity, this is an extraordinary story told by a masterful performer.

There are performances at 1.30pm and 8pm, both at The Marlowe Studio. Containing adult themes and languages, Something Dark is recommended for those aged 16 and over. After each show, there will be a free Q&A.

On Wednesday 5 December, also at The Marowe Studio, Lemn will be in conversation with multi-award-winning comedian Sophie Willan. Sophie's mother was a heroin addict and consequently Sophie spent time in care as a child and later worked as an escort. Sophie is one of the UK's leading ambassadors for homeless young people and care-leavers.

This one-off event is a rare chance to see two of the country's most inspirational contemporary performers in open and unscripted conversation - setting their own agenda and discussing the topics and issues at the forefront of their creative minds.

For ticket prices for both performances (concessions available), and to book, call the Box Office on 01227 787787, or go to marlowetheatre.com.
