Harriet Walter and Craig David Announced as New Patrons For Nuffield Southampton Theatres

Ahead of the opening of their new venue - NST city, Nuffield Southampton Theatres today announces that Harriet Walter and Craig David will join the theatre as patrons, working alongside Samantha Bond, Laura Carmichael, Tom Hiddleston and Celia Imrie. They also join the recently announced new associates, Inua Ellams and Drew McOnie adding to the breadth of ambassadors for the theatre.

As patrons of Nuffield Southampton Theatres, Walter and David will support and champion the upcoming season of work as well as the launch of the brand-new theatre.

Born in Southampton, Craig David is a singer/songwriter who emerged in early 2000 on the UK garage and R&B scene. From Ivor Novello Awards to worldwide sales of over 20 million, 2 UK No.1's, 15 Top 10 hits, huge success in America and sold out shows across the world, he is one of the UK music scene's most successful male solo exports. His 15 Top 10 singles include Fill Me In, 7 Days, Walking Away, What's Your Flava, Hot Stuff ('Let's Dance'), his current hit single 'I Know You' featuring Bastille and the duet with Sting, Rise and Fall. Over his career he has been awarded three Ivor Novellos, (including the two awards for Songwriter of The Year and Best Contemporary Song), six MOBOs, two MTV EMA awards plus multiple Brit and Grammy award nominations. His sixth studio album Following My Intuition came out in 2016 including hit singles When the Bassline Drops and Nothing Like This and debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums chart. Most recently he has released the singles Heartline and I Know You featuring Bastille which are from his upcoming seventh studio album The Time Is Now, which is released on Friday.

Dame Harriet Walter's most recent theatre credits include the Shakespeare Trilogy at The Donmar Warehouse and Kings Cross Theatre which, amongst universal acclaim, received a Tonic Award, with The Tempest also being performed at St Ann's Warehouse in New York. Her performance in Mary Stuart, also for The Donmar Warehouse/ Shubert theatre, New York, was awarded an Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Actress and nominated for a Tony Award. Her other theatre credits include Boa (Trafalgar Studios), Death of a Salesman (RSC/West End), Dinner, Life Times Three, The Children's Hour, Arcadia (National Theatre), Macbeth, Antony and Cleopatra, Much Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night, Cymbeline and Three Sisters (RSC) for which she won an Olivier Award. Her extensive screen credits include The Crown, London Spy, Downton Abbey, The Sense of an Ending, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Little Dorrit, Atonement, Babel and Bright Young Things. She is the author of three books: Other People's Shoes, which explores her thoughts on acting; Facing It, reflections on images of older women and Brutus and Other Heroines, about performing Shakespeare's roles for women.
