DRUNKEN NIGHTS Featuring Christopher Brett Bailey Set to Return in March

Drunken Chorus return to London in March with another night of unexpected theatre, off-beat comedy and experimental dance - for pubs!!

Contemporary performance company Drunken Chorus are back at London's George Tavern on 24 March, with their successful DRUNKEN NIGHTS event. A firm fixture on the London performance calendar, this unique series of live performance events for pubs is now in its fourth year. The nights features a range of live artists, who have taken inspiration from the traditions of the Great British pub. Featuring unexpected theatre, off-beat comedy, experimental dance - and even a good old fashioned sing-along.

DRUNKEN NIGHTS is all about exciting contemporary performance in pubs - the producers throw out the rule books of theatres and galleries, and guarantee you a night of surprising, unexpected and extraordinary performance on tap. All of the acts take place in the main bar area so audiences can enjoy the evening from the comfort of their bar stool.

The March event will feature award-winning Canadian writer and performer Christopher Brett Bailey, whose recent performance, This Is How We Die, took the contemporary theatre scene by storm. This is a unique opportunity to see him perform in the intimate setting of a local pub. The night will feature three newly commissioned performances from artists at the start of their careers. These emerging artists have received development support from Drunken Chorus to make their new work - with a production budget, free rehearsal space at Theatre Delicatessen and mentoring from Olivier Award-winner Ursula Martinez, critically acclaimed artist and performer Nic Green and Sheffield-based theatre company Third Angel, who have been making performance for over 20 years. The event will be compered by performance artist Tom Marshman - who guides the audience through the night as classic Eastenders landlady - Angie Watts.

This year, the three supported artists showing new work are: Paige Stillwell (Preston), Lascelles Dance (Sheffield / Brighton), Two's A Crowd (London). The performances include lies, Liam Gallagher, lots of wine. Audiences can expect dancing on chairs, bad singing, cross-dressing, and opportunities for audience members to act out some more classic Eastenders scenes from the Queen Vic.

Drunken Chorus are excited to have once again collaborated with Club Soda - a group of performers with learning disabilities, who will be performing their show, It Needs More Saxophone, at the event on 24 March. Audiences will recognise one of the Club Soda performers, Michael Selwyn, from Channel 4's The Undatables.

The George Tavern is currently fighting a legal battle against plans to build luxury flats next to the venue, which could threaten the future of the venue. Drunken Chorus are proud supporters of the George's campaign to maintain this historic Grade II Listed building as a pub and live music venue.

Says Chris Williams, one of the producers of the project: 'This is an opportunity to see new performances made exclusively for local pubs, and a rare chance to see the award-winning Christopher Brett Bailey performing in the intimate setting of a London pub'.

This is the fourth year of the project, which this year is supported by Theatre Delicatessen, Derelict, Uppercut Collective, Sheffield Town Trust, Big Lottery Fund, South Yorkshire Community Foundation, Club Soda and Studio Film School.
