Theodore Bikel, Aidan deSalaiz Lead HGJTC's VISITING MR. GREEN

By:

David Eisner and Avery Saltzman, Co-Artistic Directors of the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company (HGJTC), present the Toronto premiere of VISITING Mr. Green by Jeff Baron, at the Jane Mallett Theatre, St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, from January 28 - February 18, 2012.

One of the most-produced plays in the world, the much-lauded VISITING Mr. Green has had over 300 productions worldwide and been translated into 22 languages.

The legendary Theodore Bikel stars as Mr. Green, who is almost hit by a car driven by a young corporate executive. Visiting Mr. Green will be Aidan deSalaiz (Of Mice and Men, Romeo and Juliet at Stratford Festival; Juan in Angelwalk Theatre's Altar Boyz) as Ross Gardiner. Found guilty of reckless driving, Ross is ordered to spend the next six months making weekly visits to Mr. Green. What starts off as a comedy about two people who resent being in the same room together develops into a gripping and poignant drama, as family secrets are revealed and old wounds opened.

Theodore Bikel, nominated for an Academy Award for The Defiant Ones and for a Tony Award for originating the role of Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music, may be best known for playing Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, a role he played more than 2,100 times on Broadway. Most recently, Bikel won a 2010 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance for Sholom Aleichem: Laughter Through Tears, presented in Toronto by HGJTC in 2009.

VISITING Mr. Green will be directed by Jen Shuber (Angelwalk Theatre's The Last Five Years; Zay Shtil, HGJTC's In The Beginning Festival) with set and costumes by Cameron Porteous and lighting by Lesley Wilkinson.

Founded in 2006, the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company is Toronto's only professional theatre company established to celebrate, illuminate and share Jewish culture.
