The nominations are out! (see attached list) The Montreal English Critics Circle Awards (MECCA) ceremony will be held on Monday, November 29, 2010 at Theatre Ste-Catherine, 264 St. Catherine St. E. The awards presentation event is by invitation only. (Some seats might be available to the public at the door the night of the event, right before showtime.)

Begun in 1998, the MECCAs have been awarded to local Anglophone productions including categories for performers, designers, directors, text and honour awards. Originally a widely distributed media list of Montreal's best English-language live performance achievements over the previous season, the MECCAs have grown to encompass a live presentation ceremony. It is the only annual celebration of its kind; the one time the entire theatre arts community comes together to celebrate excellence in an atmosphere of genuine camaraderie.

The MECCAs are organized by the Montreal critics themselves to demonstrate the importance of theatre in the community. The group was borne out of a sincere desire to recognize the contributions of outstanding theatre artists, both on and off stage, who have distinguished themselves over the past season. Over the years, participating media have included representatives from CBC Radio, CBC-TV, CKUT, CINQ, The Gazette, Mirror, Hour, The Suburban and more.

The MECCA awards have significantly increased the profile of Anglophone theatre companies and artists in Quebec as well as enhancing the careers of many nominees and winners.

Audiences and the general public alike look forward to discovering who has been chosen as the MECCA critics' picks for the 2009-2010 season.
