BWW Special: Twickets Lands in Toronto

By: Jul. 24, 2013

Did you miss out on Book of Mormon tickets because you weren't first in line when they went on sale? Are you fretting that you might not get the seats you want to the next must-see Toronto musical? Fear not - there's a new enterprise designed to match ticket buyers with willing sellers - at regular (i.e. non-scalper) prices.

BroadwayWorld has always prided itself on being up to date on what's happening in the word of social media, so we're thrilled to notify our readers of the latest social media offering to hit Toronto - 'Twickets'. The concept is simple - help match people who have bought tickets to events that they can't use with eager buyers who don't want to pay inflated scalper prices. Use social media to do it, and you have a winning way of connecting people with no need for hefty fees or complicated registration practices.

Using the handle @TwicketsToronto and a software program specifically designed for the endeavour, Twickets will search Twitter and RT any tweets from people looking to sell tickets to a popular show or event. Volunteers are working tirelessly behind the scenes sifting through offerings and picking out the legitimate ones - all of which must be being offered at equal to or less than the face value price of the ticket.

Twickets is the brainchild of Richard Davies, who first launched the program in the UK where it has grown to over 100,000 users and has an iPhone and Android app. In this Toronto Star article, he says that they're waiting for Toronto to hit the 1,000 follower mark before rolling out the app to our city (and NYC could follow after that).

Here at BroadwayWorld we've seen first hand the unique ability social media has to connect people with the events, shows and organizations they're passionate about, and we're continually inspired by the overall good nature and honesty that most people exhibit through online mediums. Twickets is taking advantage of this sense of community and camaraderie to not only bring more people together, but help many people see shows they would not have already seen.

So get on Twitter and get follow @TwicketsToronto - or use the hashtag #TwicketsToronto if you're looking to buy or sell tickets. You never know when that next great event will sell out, and you may finally have an affordable option to ensure you aren't disappointed.
