Anxiety, Stigma, And Punk Collide In Canadian Premiere Of Immersive Dance-Theatre Performance 4-7-8

Toronto-based TOES FOR DANCE (TFD) and choreographer, producer, and Co-Artistic Director of TFD, Kristen Carcone, present an immersive dance performance, 4-7-8, from November 30 to December 2, 2018. Taking place in the compelling setting of the Small Arms Inspection Building, 4-7-8 explores the complexities and social stigma surrounding anxiety while creating a space for conversation between performers and audience members about mental health. 4-7-8 is an immersive experience that includes dance, theatre, visual art, live music, and audio installation. Based on the breathing technique made popular by Dr. Andrew Weil, it offers an introspective take on the everyday experiences of anxiety and Weil's approach to healing. Audiences will walk from room to room as a collective, engaging with different manifestations of mental health as told through a multitude of artistic practices and perspectives.

"As someone who lives with anxiety, 4-7-8, was a cathartic piece to develop and produce" says choreographer and Co-Artistic Director of TOES FOR DANCE, Kristen Carcone. "The idea originated while watching a live punk band perform. I was standing front row and the deep resonance from the drums felt like it was controlling my heartbeat, taking control of my body in the same way panic attacks do. I suddenly was witnessing the power of interpretation and mindful connection."

The Outreach and Exchange Strategy for Dance (TOES FOR DANCE) is a non-profit organization founded in 2012 by Co-Artistic Directors, Kristen Carcone and David Norsworthy. TFD creates opportunities for shared experiences in order to foster a community that is open to continuous learning. We contribute to the well-being and vibrancy of our community by creating unique and valuable platforms for artistic exchange, public engagement, and dance education. TFD has created, developed, and curated multiple performances that have been seen by over 7,600 audience members.
